Remember those heady, pleased days when Right Blood's sly comments on politics and prejudice were mainly confined to a metaphor, only occasionally breaking through in a witty, grave remark? But currently subtext has be converted into text, and heavy-handed text at that, 

HBO's Right Blood returned with less bite in the ratings this summer, though competition from the NBA Finals might have been to blame. The sixth season of the vampire drama debuted to 4.5 million viewers Sunday evening, 

After a finale full of vampire scripture, fairy safe havens, and quantity-master wars, Right Blood season six picks up right where we left off — with a very bloody Bill (Billith?), a very frightened Sookie, and the beginnings of a war.

The choice to reduce the number of Right Blood episodes from 12 to 10 this season made plenty of sense in theory accommodating Anna Paquin's pregnanc.
